NICHICON Develops CHAdeMO 1.01-compliant Compact 25-kW/35-kW Quick Charger for EVs and PHVs
2016-08-04 | ReturnThe company has now expanded its lineup of CHAdeMO 1.01-compliant products with 25-kW and 35-kW quick chargers for EVs and PHVs.
In addition to quick chargers, NICHICON makes EV onboard chargers, V2H systems for providing homes with electricity from EVs, PHVs, and FCVs (fuel-cell vehicles), and other environmentally friendly products.
Background of Development
In recent years Japan has developed a state-of-the-art EV charging infrastructure unlike that in any other country, a trend that is expected to continue. With increasingly larger EV battery storage capacities and an increasing number of PHVs on the road, longer wait times are already being predicted at charging stations. This has created the need for more charging stations and shorter charging times.
Nichicon has served the market with 20kW and 30kW products, the company has responded to recent trends with the introduction of new products that offer 5 kW greater output and come in a more compact package than their predecessors.
Main Features
• Compatible with CHAdeMO 1.01, the latest version of the CHAdeMO charging standard.
• These new products are slimmer (292 mm wide versus 350 mm wide) and require 17% less installation space (1,729 cm2 versus 2,802 cm2). All components requiring maintenance are concentrated on the main unit’s left side.
• 9.8% more compact (volume has decreased from 326 L to 294 L).
• Large reduction in standby power consumption: from 120 W to 20 W, an 80% decrease (when comparing the current 30-kW model with the new 35-kW model).
• Improved waterproof performance: IP34 rated (compared to IP33 for current models).
• Can be fitted with fee-charging devices (NQC-S/TC253E, NQC-TC353E Series; EcoQden payment system by Enegate; requires contract with Enegate Co., Ltd. and payment of network and server fees).
• Quick charger’s operational status, and charging fees, can be monitored and set remotely (NQC-S/TC253E, NQC-TC353E Series).
• Certain models can operate in extremely cold climates and are resistant to salt damage.
• NICHICON has utilized its onboard charger technologies and proven expertise in the units construction to realize superb reliability, high productivity, and ease of maintenance.
With these new models offering higher output and a smaller footprint, charging station operators benefit with shorter charging wait times for drivers, as well as the ability to install more of the new models in the same space as the previous models.
