Bourns Releases New PortNote® Solution and Design Kit for Protecting USB Power Delivery

2016-03-01 | Return
Riverside, California - March 1, 2016 - Bourns is pleased to announce the release of the USB Power Delivery Protection PortNote® Solution and Design Kit. The USB Power Delivery Specification enables data and up to 100 W of power simultaneously on one USB cable.

This PortNote® Solution illustrates how a polymer PTC (Bourns® Model MF-LSMF300/24X) can protect the DC bus during short circuit testing as recommended by USB 3.1 section 11.4.1.1.1. The high-speed data lines for nego- tiating power as well as the USB bus itself require overvoltage protectors with low capacitance which are provided by Bourns® 5 V and 3.3 V 4-channel TVS diode arrays (Bourns® Model CDDFN10-0524P and CDDFN10-3324P). The DC link bus requires a step down or step up con- verter with a high current soft saturation power inductor such as the Bourns® Model SRP6540-100M power inductor (7.2 x 6.5 x 4.0 mm).
