Broadcom Delivers Industry’s First Single-Chip 24-port SAS+SATA Host Bus Adapter
2016-02-02 | ReturnBroadcom Limited (NASDAQ: AVGO) today announced the expansion of its industry-leading family of 12Gb/s SAS+SATA Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) with new 24-and 16-port models. The high-port count 9305 HBA family includes the industry’s first 12Gb/s model with 24-ports on a single chip, providing increased performance, extended system scalability and decreased per-port power consumption. Available today, the 9305 HBA family are designed to meet the needs of hyperscale data centers that deploy high-end server and storage systems.
As part of the industry’s broadest portfolio of 12Gb/s SAS+SATA storage solutions, the new Broadcom SAS 9305 family of 24-and 16-port HBAs are ideal for large scale-out storage requirements. The Broadcom SAS 9305 HBAs enable OEMs and system builders to maximize connectivity and increase performance, while reducing costs, design footprint, and power consumption.
The Broadcom SAS+SATA 9305 family of 24-and 16-port 12Gb/s HBAs include the 9305-24i, 9305-16e, and 9305-16i, addressing hyperscale connectivity and performance requirements with:
- 24 internal or 16 external or internal 12Gb/s SAS+SATA ports with power consumption at less than 1w per port
- Support of up to x8 PCIe lanes at transfer rate up to 8.0 GT/s per lane
- PCI Express 3.0
- 12Gb/s data transfer rates
- Fourth-generation SAS 3224 and SAS 3216 SAS+SATA controllers
- Certified by Broadcom to support up to 1024 SSDs, HDDs, and tape drives
- Certified Broadcom OS Support for Microsoft Windows, Linux (SuSE, Red Hat), Solaris, VMware, FreeBSD
Broadcom continues to showcase its 12Gb/s SAS leadership with the industry’s first-to-market high-port count 24-port HBA solutions on a single chip,” said Jas Tremblay, vice president of marketing, Data Center Solutions Group, Broadcom Limited. “With leading designs and adoption by top OEMs around the globe, Broadcom 12Gb/s SAS solutions are trusted by system makers that need to build the most demanding hyperscale server and storage platforms.
QCT customers are among the most demanding users of high-performance datacenter solutions,” said Mike Yang, general manager of QCT (Quanta Cloud Technology). “They are constantly asking for higher performance at lower operational and management costs. The added system design flexibility from Broadcom’s latest high-port count 12Gb/s HBA solutions brings both QuantaGrid and QuantaPlex server families the higher performance and greater efficiency that QCT customers require.
Broadcom is the trusted market leader in storage connectivity and continues to innovate and invest in the industry’s broadest products portfolio including PCIe & NVMe Switches, SAS/SATA Controllers and Expanders, HBAs, RAID Adapters, Fibre Channel, HDD SoCs and PreAmps and SSD SoCs.
