2023-03-06 | Return
Lumex New Programmable RGB LED Dot Matrix Displays are the solution for representing information through LED Display. Based on the feedback from customers, Lumex provides 20 different items, to meet the variable senario.

Those 20 items keep all the goodies of ezDisplay LED Dotmatrix, such as UART interface, 5V input and Lumex developed AT commands. There are also two differnet groups for Indoor and Outdoor uses.

There are two major improvements.

Dot Matrix

"Dot Matrix" is an unique category of LED Displays and also found in LCD and OLED products. The concept of LED Dot Matrix Display is the same as LCD Dot Matrix and OLED Dot Matrix. It is able to show characters, numbers or graphics by light up different pixels(dots) of a Display.

How many pixels are required to show a word? To show single character typically takes 5 x 7 or 5 x 8 pixels. To display a word, normally it takes one extra pixel to be the gap between each character. Therefore, to present a readable word, each character will take 6x8 pixels. In LCD and OLED, there is one special category, character type Dot Matrix, which using a space instead of using pixels to sperate characters.

Does the shap of LED Dot Matrix Display have to be rectangle? Although, rectangle is the most common shape for Dot Matrix Display, but other shapes such as circle or/and triangle are also available for various usages. Not only the shape of Dot Matrix LED Display could be different, but also the shape of each single dot could be different. Circle or square are the most common shape of each dots, but rectangle also able to be found in certain application. In rare case, triangle, oval or other shapes are also used.

How does LED Dot Matrix Display work? Most LEDs in a Dot Matrix Display have a shared anode(co-anode) or cathod(co-cathod) pin, and controlled by a driver IC. Normally, this driver IC is seperatelly from LED Dot Matrix and provided from the customer. Although the driver IC commonly from customer's choice, the IC could sit on cutomser's PCB board or LED Dot Matrix Display Module. This all up to customer's requirement.

LED Dot Matrix Display is highly application/customer driven products. Besides shap and pixels, the color(s) of each pixels are also widely diverse across different displays. In another term, the color(s) of each pixel are independent to another pixel.
