New fuses feature broad hold current options and provide greater design selection choices in a 2920 package size

RIVERSIDE, Calif., December 6, 2023 - Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components for power, protection, and sensing solutions, today announced that it is expanding its Multifuse® Polymer PTC Resettable Fuse line with four new products. The part numbers added to the Model MF-LSMF Series feature a 60 VDC rated Vmax that meets the growing need for overcurrent protection in higher operating voltage applications. These high power rated PPTCs also feature a broad range of hold currents (Ihold) from 0.3 A to 1.1 A.

The four new MF-LSMF Series part numbers utilize Bourns' innovative freeXpansion™ technology designed to boost resettable fuse performance and reliability to deliver superior overcurrent and overtemperature protection. Bourns developed this technology to meet strict protection needs for higher hold currents (Ihold), increased voltage ratings (Vmax), improved resistance stability and smaller footprints. These enhancements are specifically engineered to meet a wide array of application requirements, making these new Multifuse® PPTC Resettable Fuses ideal protection solutions for low DC voltage ports commonly found in data center, telecom and industrial applications.

For added reliability and longevity, Bourns uses Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold (ENIG) plating on all of its Multifuse® PPTC Resettable Fuse SMD terminals, including the Model MF-LSMF family. ENIG plating involves applying a thin, uniform layer of gold over a layer of nickel, offering outstanding corrosion resistance and excellent electrical conductivity. This plating method is widely adopted in the electronics industry due to its extended shelf life, superior solderability and high reliability. In contrast, traditional nickel-tin (Ni/Sn) plating can be susceptible to issues such as whisker formation, oxidation and corrosion, which can lead to short circuits, subpar soldering and deterioration in electronic circuits.

The four new Bourns® Multifuse® MF-LSMF family part numbers are available now. These models are RoHS compliant* and halogen free**. For more detailed product information, please see: www.bourns.com/products/circuit-protection/resettable-fuses-multifuse-pptc#smdss.
