New sensors combine low voltage, nanopower, and high speed

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.—October 14, 2019—NVE Corporation today announced revolutionary new AHT-Series Tunneling Magnetoresistance (TMR) magnetic switches, which combine low voltage, nanopower, and high speed.

Single-Cell Operation
AHT-Series sensors operate as low as 0.9 volts, so they can be powered by single-cell alkaline batteries.

Ultralow Power
TMR technology provides ultralow power. Typical AHT-Series quiescent supply current is less than one microamp with no duty cycling. That means the parts will run nearly forever on button cells, making them ideal for battery applications such as medical devices, utility meters, and portable instruments.

Configured as Switches
Outputs are configured as magnetic “switches,” turning on when a magnetic field is applied and off when the field is removed. The field can be either polarity.

High Speed
Continuous operation without duty cycling means the sensors are fast, with at least 1.5 kilohertz switching frequency.

Sensitive
Magnetic operate points are as low as 1.5 millitesla.

Ultraminiature
AHT sensors come in ultraminiature 1.1 by 1.1 by 0.35 millimeter (0.043 by 0.043 by 0.014 inch) ULLGA-4 packages.

Key Specifications
  • 0.9 to 1.8 volts supply voltage

  • 1 microamp typical supply current

Three Families of Nanopower Sensors
NVE has two other families of nanopower sensors in addition to the new AHT-Series TMR magnetic switches. AHL-Series GMR magnetic switches have a 0.9 to 2.4-volt supply range. ADT-Series GMR magnetic switches have a 2.4 to 3.6-volt supply range for 3.3-volt or lithium battery power supplies. AHT- and AHL-Series sensors use GMR (Giant Magnetoresistance) technology with continuous-duty and duty-cycled versions. All of the sensors are available with a choice of magnetic operate points, and all use NVE’s ultraminiature 1.1 by 1.1 by 0.35 millimeter ULLGA-4 package.

Leaders in Practical Spintronics
NVE is a leader in the practical commercialization of spintronics, a nanotechnology that relies on electron spin rather than electron charge to acquire, store and transmit information. The company manufactures high-performance spintronic products including sensors and couplers that are used to acquire and transmit data.
