AVX Releases Unique Three-Piece STRIPT™ Contact System for Linear LED & Coplanar PCB Connections

Initially developed for off-road vehiclelighting, thenew 70-9159 STRIPT linking BTB contact system delivers a size-to-performanceratio& current handling capabilities unmatched by existing BTB &WTBsolutions, & at a lower cost than traditional insulated connectors.

FOUNTAININN, S.C. (July 11, 2018) – AVXCorporation, a leadingmanufacturer and supplier of advanced electroniccomponents and interconnect, sensor, control, and antenna solutions, developeda cost-effective,ultra-high-reliability,three-piece STRIPT™ contact systemfor linear LED and coplanar PCB connectionsin off-road vehicle lightingapplications. Designed to absorb broad end-to-endmating tolerances, handle upto 20A of continuous current, and exhibit robustresistance to extreme shock, vibration, and temperatures, the new 70-9159Series linking board-to-board (BTB) contact system consists of twolow-profile, single-position, andhigh-spring-force surface-mount C-clipcontacts and a linking bridge contact. The system’s SMT C-clip contacts are madeof made of fatigue-resistant phosphorbronze, have multiple spring-fingercontact points that maintain high matingforces and ensure uninterruptedconnections, and are only 2mm tall, allowingthem to be placed close to LEDswithout interference. Integral dimples on thebridge contact provide positiveretention in the C-clip contacts to prevent itfrom backing out, and a centeredtang prevents it from moving side to side.

Thislatest addition to AVX’s portfolio of UL-certifiedSTRIPT solutions alsodelivers ultra-high-reliability performance in a lowerprofile and at a lowercost than traditional insulated connectors. No other BTBsolution currentlyavailable on the market offers the same size-to-performanceratio or highcurrent handling capabilities as the new 70-9159 STRIPT BTBlinking contactsystem, and dual wire-to-board (WTB) connections would add bothcost and labor, and would also struggle to meet the 20A rating.

“Althoughwe developed the new 70-9159 STRIPT linkingcontact system in response to acustomer request for a robust, high-current,coplanar, board-to-board connectorfor off-road vehicle lighting, the system’shigh current capabilities, extremeenvironmental resistance, and ultra-highreliability can also provide improvedperformance, space savings, and costreductions in other challenging coplanar,board-to-board applications,” saidTom Anderson, product manager at AVX.

Thetwo single-position SMT C-clip phosphor bronzecontacts and high-strength copperalloy linking bridge contact that comprisethe 70-9159 STRIPT BTB linkingcontact system are lead-free and plated withmatte-tin-over-nickel, and arerated for 300V, 20A, operating temperaturesextending from -40°C to +125°C, andfive durability cycles.
