TE Connectivity expands M8/M12 cordset portfolio to simplify industrial Ethernet applications

M12 D-code to RJ45 streamlines concurrent use of multiple connectors within one system

TE Connectivity, a world leader in connectivity and sensors, is expanding its M8/M12 cable assemblies portfolio by introducing M12 D-code to RJ45 cordsets. The new cordset is a key component to simplifying industrial Ethernet applications that use both RJ45 and M12 connectors. Combining the two connector types into one cordset makes it easier to integrate multiple connectors within a single system, allowing customers to meet a variety of application specifications and connectivity requirements.

“Connecting the M12 cable and the RJ45 links the IP67 world with the IP20 world to meet connectivity requirements at an increased installation time,” says Sofia Sevastidou, product manager at TE Connectivity. “The new D-code cordsets complement our existing portfolio and supports both high-flexing and stationary industrial Ethernet requirements. The demand for higher speeds will continue to drive these advances in connector design, especially in applications that require higher network speeds and more reliable, high-quality data transmissions, like factory automation. We’ve seen a significant move in this industry to deploy these cables throughout factory floors.”

The M8/M12 cordset portfolio from TE complies with most industrial Ethernet protocols, including Profinet, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT and Sercos III. The full cordset collection offers a range of products, from economical solutions to high-end cables to cater to a multitude of market trends, application requirements and geographical preferences. For example, choosing between TPE, PUR and PVC options provide the design flexibility needed in most industrial environments worldwide, with sizes from AWG24 to AWG22.

The molded M12 D-code to RJ45 cordsets are designed for connection within control cabinets, machinery and outdoor operations. The cable/connector combinations are directly related to customer’s intended application use — static, occasional movement or continuous high-flex.

TE’s M12 Ethernet Cat5e communication package is also being complemented by introducing the female configurations.

Additional features

> IP67 enclosure rating provides waterproof protection to ensure the unit remains fully operational in industrial applications.
> 360-degree shielding provides enhanced EMC performance, resulting in secured signal and data transmission.
> PUR and TPE cables are effective for demanding applications, such as drag chain and torsion application environments.
> PVC cable provides a competitive and economic solution for occasional movement or vibration.
> Oil- and UV-resistant cables can be applied industrial applications.
