Semtech Releases Its Newest PON-X™ Device for 10G PON Optical Network Units

Device to drive the growth of 10G PON by enabling high performance at a low cost for equipment manufacturers

CAMARILLO, Calif., Mar. 10, 2020 – Semtech Corporation, a leading supplier of high performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and advanced algorithms, today announced the latest addition to the PON-X™ family, the GN28L97 integrated laser driver and limiting amplifier for asymmetric 10G PON Optical Network Units (ONU).

“The adoption of 10G PON technologies is expected to gather pace in 2020 and equipment manufacturers increasingly desire products to meet the demand for higher capacity and faster download speeds,” said Simon McCaul, Senior Market Manager for Semtech’s Signal Integrity Products Group. “The programmability and flexibility of the GN28L97 should contribute to the PON industry growth by enabling high performance at a low cost for equipment manufacturers.”

GN28L97 is a fully integrated asymmetric combo chip integrating Semtech’s unique automatic laser calibration technology with programmable 2.5G transmit and 10G receive signal paths. The performance of low cost lasers and avalanche photodiodes (APDs) is optimized using advanced eye shaping technology. This optimized design and integration reduces the overall cost of mounting the optics on the main ONU board.

GN28L97 is available in a compact 4x4 millimeter QFN package, requiring minimal setup time for high production yield.
